How Daily Scramdle points work: difficulty, speed and hints
Check Daily Scramdle’s base points, speed-bonus thresholds and rounding with worked examples. Learn what hints, skips and streak rewards do to your score.
Scramdle · PublishedYour points come from difficulty and time remaining
In Daily Scramdle, each correct word earns 100, 150 or 200 base points, depending on its difficulty. Solve with at least three-quarters of the base clock remaining to add a 25% bonus. With at least half remaining, add 12.5% instead. Below half, a correct answer still earns the full base score. Each bonus rounds down to a whole number.
Hints do not deduct Daily points. Skipped words and words that time out earn zero. Your final score is the sum of the points earned on the 15 words. These are Daily’s rules; other modes can score differently. The game rules give the wider overview.
Start with the three difficulty levels
The round moves through five easy words, then five medium words, then five hard words. Each word has its own clock. The table shows the normal time allowance before any earned Extra Time reward.
| Words | Base points | Time per word |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 · Easy · 5 letters | 100 | 30 seconds |
| 6–10 · Medium · 7 letters | 150 | 60 seconds |
| 11–15 · Hard · 9 letters | 200 | 90 seconds |
Find the speed-bonus band
The two bonuses do not stack. You receive the highest band you qualify for: 25%, 12.5% or no bonus. The thresholds compare time remaining with the base clock for that difficulty.
The game calculates remaining time in whole seconds, rounding up. This table gives the lowest whole-second value in each bonus band. The server checks the clock when it processes your answer, so submit promptly rather than waiting for a boundary on your screen.
| Difficulty | 25% bonus | 12.5% bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | 23 seconds | 15 seconds |
| Medium | 45 seconds | 30 seconds |
| Hard | 68 seconds | 45 seconds |
Why 187 points is correct for a fast medium word
For a medium word with 45 seconds remaining, the base is 150. Its 25% bonus is 37.5, which rounds down to 37. The word earns 150 + 37 = 187 points. It does not round up to 188.
For an easy word with 20 seconds remaining, you are below the 23-second top band but above the 15-second lower band. The 12.5% bonus on 100 is 12.5, rounded down to 12. That word earns 112 points.
For a hard word with 44 seconds remaining, less than half its 90-second base clock remains. It earns 200 points. At 45 seconds, it would earn 225. These are example clock values, not answers to today’s puzzles.
| Difficulty | 25% band | 12.5% band | Base only |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 125 | 112 | 100 |
| Medium | 187 | 168 | 150 |
| Hard | 250 | 225 | 200 |
Hints help without a point deduction
A standard Daily round starts with three hints. A hint reveals the first letter of an easy word, the first two letters of a medium word or the first three letters of a hard word. You can use one hint on a word; earned rewards can increase the hints available across the round.
Using a hint does not subtract points or change the word’s base value. The running clock still matters: if you solve a medium word with 40 seconds left, it earns 168 points whether or not you used a hint. Time spent thinking can move you into a lower bonus band.
If an earned Extra Time reward is active, it adds ten seconds to each word’s clock. The bonus thresholds still use the original 30-, 60- or 90-second allowance. Clock Stopper freezes the remaining time for that word, and scoring uses that frozen value. Neither reward adds a separate point multiplier. See daily streaks and rewards for when these become available.
Add the word scores, not the percentages
Imagine three solved words: an easy word worth 112, a medium word worth 187 and a hard word worth 200. Together they contribute 499 points. A skipped word adds zero and does not remove those points. A timeout also adds zero; the round moves on.
Because rounding happens on each word, calculate each award before adding the round total. Five medium words in the top band earn 5 × 187 = 935 points, rather than rounding a combined percentage once.
If you solve all 15 words in the top bonus band, the maximum is 2,810 points: 5 × 125 + 5 × 187 + 5 × 250. Solving every word after its bonus bands have passed earns 2,250. These are calculated totals, not targets you need to reach to enjoy or complete a round.
Review today’s score, then practice for tomorrow
At the end, open Review your words to see each word’s points. A valid alternative anagram earns the same award when it uses exactly the supplied letters and appears in Scramdle’s accepted word list; there is no extra bonus for matching only one particular arrangement.
A completed Daily opens its saved results rather than restarting for another score. The next Daily arrives at midnight Eastern. To work on finding words between daily rounds, use untimed Practice, or revisit the anagram examples and letter-count checks.
